The experience of joy and play during the scan also took away the fear from parents. This less need for anaesthesiologists meant more patients could get scanned each day, which heavily impacts the financial side of the equation. It makes it easier for children to hold still during the procedure what in turn prevents the doctors from having to repeat the scan. Instead some of them even ask their parents if they can come back tomorrow. Children do not suffer of anxiety anymore. First of all, the patient satisfaction scores went up 90 percent. Some positive impacts derive from Doug Dietz’Adventure Series. ( Cited from the Newsroom of GE Healthcare) The Cozy Camp gives children the chance to be scanned in a specialized sleeping bag, under a starry sky in an impressive camp setting.” It has a disco ball that makes light like bubbles around the room children get into a yellow submarine and listen to the sound of harps whilst the procedure takes place. The Coral City Adventure in the emergency room gives children an underwater experience. Children then work on the plank to be scanned. There is a shipwreck and some sand castles in the corner. “In the Pirate Adventure, a visual transformation of the equipment that was available before, patients are on a dock. This is what Doug Dietz invented after hisuser research: Next, he created the first prototype of what would become the “Adventure Series” scanner and was able to get it installed as a pilot program in the children’s hospital at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.” He reached out for help from people around him, including a small volunteer team from GE, experts from a local children’s museum, and doctors and staff from two hospitals. He talked to child life specialists to understand what pediatric patients went through. He started by observing and gaining empathy for young children at a day care center. “ I started to imagine how powerful this tool could be if I brought it back and got cross-functional teams to work together.” Going through the human-centered design process with people in diverse industries and roles-from management to human resources to finance-struck a chord in him. “The workshop offered Doug new tools that ignited his creative confidence: He learned about a human-centered approach to design and innovation. He went to Stanford’s d.school for a workshop. In their book on Creative Confidence the brothers Tom and David Kelley recall how Doug Dietz tried to find new inspiration for this project by trying out design thinking. How could one create a scanner experience that children would love?

![]() This ornament plugs into the standard light strand of Christmas lights in order to light up. The date of release (1994) is printed on the ornament above the back warp thruster light assembly. The Hallmark "Klingon Bird Of Prey" ornament is made of a durable plastic and has the starship on its own, as is typical for Hallmark's starship line of Star Trek ornaments. ![]() Measuring four inches long, five and one-eighth inches in wingspan and two inches tall, the Klingon Bird Of Prey ornament is one of the essential Star Trek ships and most fans of the ship and the franchise had no problem shelling out $24.00 at the time the ornament was released. The ornament, released in 1994, is an incredible work, as far as surface detail and coloring. The "Klingon Bird Of Prey" ornament faithfully recreates the famed Klingon starship in its cruising mode, with the wings in the "down" position. Since that film, the Klingon Bird Of Prey has returned in other Star Trek films as well as the spin-offs, Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, cementing it as one of the essential vessels of the Star Trek franchise. The starship was sleek, appeared dangerous (it blew up two ships pretty easily in the film!) and was accented by very cool theme music. In fact, I recall when I first saw a Klingon Bird Of Prey in Star Trek III: The Search For Spock ( click here for the review of that film!) and I was completely captivated. Yes, I may be a geek with a science fiction Christmas tree, but I know what I like! Today is, as far as I'm concerned, a good Christmas ornament day, at least for me as a science fiction fan and ornament reviewer. The display box with Michael Dorn's signature in silver ink is NMint. The Good: Great sculpt and detailing, Interesting enough light effect ![]() In addition to the ornament itself, this item is unique as the decorative display box has been autographed on the front by Michael Dorn, the actor who brought Worf to life in the series! We won this signed item at a local Star Trek convention where Michael was the guest of honor in the late 1990s.Ĭondition: New, taken out of the box only to test the ornament which works perfectly. Manufactured in 1994 by Hallmark under license from Paramount Pictures. The ship measures approximately 4" long and 5" wide. The ship comes to life as red and green lights begin to flicker automatically and constantly. Meticulously detailed, this starship plugs into most miniature tree light strings (3.5- or 6-volt bulbs). Description: Here is a great gift for the Star Trek fan in your life (or for yourself)!
